EXPERTISE

I chose this specialty after observing how overlooking mental health difficulties or neurodivergence in childhood and adolescence often lead to a difficult trajectory in life. I have seen significant, remarkable benefits from early recognition and appropriate, timely management of these difficulties. I take a pragmatic approach to relief of symptoms and work from a holistic perspective, recognising how historical and current systems, family history and environmental influences impact on the child.

I am passionate about helping families take control and ownership of their health and wellbeing. I believe there is much that can be achieved by addressing lifestyle factors such as nutrition, sleep, exercise, and meaningful activity.

During the consultation I have a flexible, conversational approach and can adapt to your child or young person's communication style and needs. I aim to build a relaxed atmosphere, making the most of the appointment time.

I have worked within NHS psychiatric services since 2010 and within CAMHS in the West of Scotland since 2015, gaining expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of mental health and neurodevelopmental presentations of varying complexity and severity. I have experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist within a generic CAMHS team and have worked within learning disability CAMHS, regional adolescent inpatient unit, paediatric liaison psychiatry and forensic CAMHS teams.

I am registered with the General Medical Council and Royal College of Psychiatrists, and take part in peer supervision, appraisal and revalidation.

In my spare time I enjoy getting outdoors with my family and our Cockapoo pup, taking on home improvements and playing piano.
