DR ALEXANDRIA PHILLIPS

Clinical Psychologist
Pronouns: She/Her

I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space to promote therapeutic change and enhance the overall psychological wellbeing of individuals. I understand that life can be full of suffering and humans are capable of experiencing a vast array of painful emotions that can impact their ability to live a meaningful life. I am committed to empowering individuals to address life’s challenges in a holistic manner. I work collaboratively with individuals to make sense of current experiences within the wider context of their life, taking into consideration biological, psychological and social factors through comprehensive assessment. This shared conceptual understanding forms the basis of clear, evidence-based treatment plans with tailored meaningful, and actionable goals to improve difficulties and live a valued life.

I have had the privilege of working for seven years across a number of NHS specialist mental and physical health treatment services, third sector bereavement services and I currently work as lead clinical psychologist for a specialist weight management service. These experiences have built my knowledge and expertise in supporting people who experience complex emotion dysregulation as well as common mental health difficulties including mood disorders and anxiety. From my experience of working in a specialist neurodevelopmental service I am able to identify neurodivergence to support appropriate onward referrals for formal assessment as well as adjustments in therapy to support engagement.

I have completed a Masters Qualification and Doctoral Level Training as a Clinical Psychologist. I take an integrative, evidence-based approach to supporting individuals, drawing on trauma focused approaches, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness to support people achieve personally meaningful goals. I am guided by core principles of integrity, safety and authenticity to create a strong, trusting therapeutic relationships which create the foundational basis for change.

I am committed to contributing to research in the field and bring cutting-edge evidence into my clinical practice. For example, drawing on polyvagal theory understanding of the autonomic nervous system to support client’s understanding of physiological changes and regulation in an unstable world.
